Kohli, Gaikwad hit tons as India post 358
India were steady after early hiccups.
Rohit (14) and Jaiswal (22) fell inside 10 overs, but Virat Kohli (102) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (105) turned the innings around with a superb 195-run stand.
Gaikwad played fluently through the middle overs, while Kohli anchored the innings and picked up his consecutive ODI century.
KL Rahul provided the final push with 66 off 43*, helping India finish strongly at 358/5.
Markram leads strong SA reply
Chasing 359, South Africa got an early blow as de Kock fell for 8.
But Markram and Bavuma settled the innings with a crisp partnership, taking the score to 127/2.
Markram was composed throughout, rotating well and punishing loose balls. A dropped chance at long-on proved costly for India as the South Africa skipper went on to score 110 off 98 before falling at 197/3.
Brevis, Breetzke take charge in middle overs
South Africa’s chase shifted gears in the middle phase.
- Matthew Breetzke struck 68 off 64
- Dewald Brevis smashed 54 off 34 with 5 sixes
The pair’s attacking approach forced India onto the back foot, especially when Brevis targeted Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna.
By the 40th over, South Africa had complete control of the required rate.
Bosch, Maharaj finish the job
India looked for an opening when Jansen fell at 322/6, but Corbin Bosch kept calm with a vital 26 off 15*.
Keshav Maharaj supported him well with 10 off 14*, ensuring no panic in the final overs.
South Africa needed just 3 runs in the last over. Bosch finished it off with ease, sealing the chase with 4 balls remaining.
