Bangladesh reached 232/6 (50 overs), thanks to a fiery finish led by Shorna Akter’s unbeaten 51 off 35 balls, including three sixes. Her late onslaught, along with Ritu Moni’s cameo, added 82 runs in the final 10 overs, turning a modest total into a challenging one.

For South Africa, Nonkululeko Mlaba (2/42) was the standout bowler, while Chloe Tryon (1/41) and Nadine de Klerk (1/39) provided crucial breakthroughs.

    South Africa’s Nerve-Racking Chase

In reply, South Africa had a shaky start, losing Tazmin Brits for a golden duck. Captain Laura Wolvaardt (31) and Anneke Bosch (28) tried to stabilize the innings, but quick wickets in the middle overs put Bangladesh in control at 78/5.

Then came the game-changing partnership between Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon, who added 85 runs for the sixth wicket to revive South Africa’s innings.

De Klerk, showing great composure, smashed a four and a six to seal victory with three balls remaining, finishing unbeaten on 37. South Africa ended at 235/7 (49.3 overs), winning by 3 wickets.

Chloe Tryon was named Player of the Match for her all-round heroics — scoring 62 off 69 balls and taking 1 wicket for 41 runs. Her partnership with Kapp was the turning point, rescuing South Africa from a tough situation.

“We wanted to take the game deep and back ourselves in the chase. Nadine was brilliant at the other end. We just stayed calm and waited for the bad balls,” said Tryon after the match.

    Captains’ Reactions

    Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa Captain)

“It was a lot closer than we would’ve liked, but I’m proud of the fight. Kapp and Tryon were amazing, and Nadine finished it beautifully. We’re learning to close out these close games, and that’s a big positive.”

    Nigar Sultana (Bangladesh Captain)

“I’m proud of how my girls fought till the last ball. We were 10-15 runs short, but Shorna’s innings was outstanding. This young team has shown great courage — we’ll come back stronger.”

    3. Dropped catch by Shorna Akter in the 49th over — proved costly.
