    • Venue: Bellerive Oval, Hobart
    • Date: Sunday, November 2, 2025
    • Result: India won by 5 wickets
    • Series: Level 1–1 (five-match series)

    India Bounce Back in Style

After a disappointing loss in Melbourne, Team India produced a brilliant all-round performance to defeat Australia by 5 wickets at Hobart. It was India’s first-ever T20I match at the venue, and they made it memorable by chasing down 187 runs in just 18.3 overs.

Led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, the team showed confidence, balance, and aggression throughout the match — and it paid off as India leveled the series 1–1.

Arshdeep Singh’s Magic With the Ball

Winning the toss proved crucial for India. Suryakumar Yadav chose to bowl first, and left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh set the tone early. He dismissed Travis Head and Josh Inglis in his opening spell and later removed Marcus Stoinis, finishing with impressive figures of 3/34.

Varun Chakaravarthy (2/33) and Shivam Dube (1/43) supported him well, while Jasprit Bumrah bowled economically (0/26 in 4 overs).

Despite India’s strong bowling start, Australia managed to post a competitive total of 186/6, thanks to a destructive innings from Tim David (74 off 38 balls) and a fighting 64 from Marcus Stoinis.

    Washington Sundar Steals the Show

In the run chase, India got early momentum through Abhishek Sharma (25 off 16) and Shubman Gill (15 off 12), but it was Washington Sundar who stole the spotlight. Coming in during a tense middle phase, he played a breathtaking knock of 49 off 23 balls*, hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes.

Jitesh Sharma (22* off 13 balls) gave the finishing touches with an inside-out boundary to seal victory for India with 9 balls remaining.

Tilak Varma (29 off 26) and Suryakumar Yadav (24 off 11) also contributed with valuable cameos that kept India ahead of the required rate throughout the chase.

    Australian Bowlers Struggle Without Hazlewood

Australia badly missed Josh Hazlewood, who was rested for this match. His replacement, Sean Abbott, endured a nightmare outing, conceding 56 runs in 3.3 overs — one of the most expensive spells in Hobart’s T20I history.

Only Nathan Ellis (3/36) made any real impact with the ball, while Xavier Bartlett and Marcus Stoinis took one wicket each.

    Key Stats & Records

    What Captains Said

    Suryakumar Yadav (India Captain):

“It was important to win the toss. I’m proud of the way everyone contributed — both batters and bowlers. Washington and Jitesh were outstanding, and Arshdeep’s early wickets gave us control. This win gives us great confidence as we move to Queensland.”

    Mitchell Marsh (Australia Captain):

“We were probably 20 runs short. Credit to India — they played fearless cricket. Tim David was brilliant, but we couldn’t defend the total. We’ll take the positives and come back stronger in the next match.”

With this win, India have leveled the five-match T20I series 1–1. The next clash — the 4th T20I — will be played at Gold Coast on Thursday, where both teams will look to take the lead in this high-voltage series.
