Rashid Khan first led Afghanistan even before turning 20. He was their stand-in skipper for the World Cup qualifier in 2018.
It was only after the 2019 World Cup that Rashid assumed permanent captaincy charge. But the run didn’t last long, as he resigned in December 2019.
Since February 2023, though, the leg-spinner has been leading the Afghan Atlans in T20I cricket. Thus far, Rashid’s stint has given mixed outcomes to Afghanistan. He has fetched 21 wins out of 42 matches across formats.

Rashid has had a number of captaincy stints in domestic T20 tournaments. And he has found great success.
Rashid’s start to T20 captaincy was memorable. He guided Band-e-Amir Dragons to title victory in the 2017 Shpageeza Cricket League.

The next year, he took Kabul Zwanan in the final of the 2018 Afghanistan Premier League, though he fell short of lifting the trophy.
Outside Afghanistan, Rashid has captained MI Cape Town in SA20. He even led Cape Town to their maiden SA20 title in the 2025 season.
