Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a big win over Kolkata at Eden Gardens, defeating them by 65 runs in IPL 2026. It was the first time this season that a team successfully defended a large total, and SRH did it in impressive fashion. The victory also handed KOL their second consecutive loss of the season.
SRH Set a Huge Target with Explosive Batting
Sunrisers Hyderabad started aggressively and maintained the momentum throughout the innings. They posted a massive total of 226/8, which is the highest score in IPL 2026 so far.
The opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma provided a flying start during the powerplay.
Head scored 46 runs from 21 balls, while Abhishek Sharma made 48 runs from 21 balls at a rapid strike rate. Together they added 82 runs in just 5.4 overs, giving SRH early control of the match.
One of the highlights of the innings came when Abhishek Sharma smashed Varun Chakravarthy for 25 runs in a single over, pushing SRH further ahead.
After the strong start, Heinrich Klaasen played an important knock of 52 runs from 35 balls. Nitish Kumar Reddy also contributed with a quick 39 from 24 balls. In the final four overs, SRH added 51 runs to reach a challenging total.

KOL Chase Started Well but Collapsed Later
Kolkata began the chase with some attacking batting. Finn Allen made a quick impact by scoring 28 runs from just 7 balls, including a powerful over worth 24 runs.
After Allen was dismissed, Angkrish Raghuvanshi kept KOL in the game with an impressive 52 runs from 29 balls. At one stage, Kolkata were 110/3 after 10 overs and still in the contest.
However, the innings turned after a run-out and a series of quick wickets. Cameron Green was dismissed earlier due to a mix-up while running between the wickets, and Raghuvanshi’s dismissal soon followed.
From that point, the chase lost momentum. Rinku Singh tried to fight back with 35 runs from 25 balls, but wickets kept falling at the other end.
Kolkata were eventually bowled out for 161 runs in 16 overs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers performed strongly in the second half of the match and ensured the target remained out of reach for KOL.
