Fatima Sana’s captaincy debut was pretty much unexpected. She filled in for injured Nida Dar in the second ODI against New Zealand in December 2023.
Sana played a wonderful knock of 90 on her captaincy debut before almost pulling off her first win. While New Zealand won that match by a whisker, it showed Sana’s leadership traits.
And almost nine months later, Sana became Pakistan’s full-time skipper ahead of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup.

Sana has led Pakistan well thus far. While she is still new to the job, she has shown her effective leadership skills early on.
In just her second match as skipper, Sana scripted a nervy Super Over win against New Zealand in Christchurch in 2023. This was her first win as Pakistan’s captain, although in an interim position.
After assuming the full-time charge, Sana’s leadership helped Pakistan book a slot in the Women’s World Cup 2025 while remaining unbeaten in the qualifier tournament played in 2025.
