West Indies’ captain Hayley Matthews hit 100 from 119 balls to lift her team to a commanding win over Sri Lanka. The match at the National Cricket Stadium in St George’s, Grenada, ended with West Indies chasing 218 and completing the job with four overs to spare.
Sri Lanka had posted 217-7 from their 50 overs after batting first. Chamari Athapaththu was dismissed early by Matthews on the very first ball, a sharp start for the Windies. Hasini Perera and Harshitha Samarawickrama steadied the innings with a 43-run partnership for the second wicket before Matthews struck again to remove Perera.
Samarawickrama continued to shine, cracking a 78-run stand for the third wicket with Vishmi Gunaratne and bringing up her fifty along the way. Sri Lanka moved past 200 but were eventually all out at 217 in 50 overs. Kavisha Dilhari finished not out on 45 off 58 balls, helping Sri Lanka finish with a competitive total.
West Indies began poorly, slipping to 12-2 early as Qiana Joseph and Shemaine Campbell fell cheaply. But Matthews joined forces with Stafanie Taylor, and the pair forged a 124-run stand that steadied the chase. Matthews hammered her 100 in the 37th over before being dismissed, bringing up her tenth ODI century. She departed after a superb knock of 100 from 119 balls.
Deandra Dottin and Chinelle Henry then saw West Indies home with an unbroken 49-run stand, ensuring there were no more wickets to worry about. West Indies finished 218-4 in 46.0 overs, securing a six-wicket win.

Matthews’ century also marked a notable personal milestone. She has joined Laura Wolvaardt as the only batters to have centuries against eight different ODI opponents. Wolvaardt’s eight-variety list includes teams such as South Africa, Pakistan (three times), New Zealand, Ireland, India, Bangladesh, Scotland, and Sri Lanka.
Other players also reached notable landmarks. Stafanie Taylor completed 6000 runs in One Day Internationals with her contributions in the match, adding another milestone to her impressive career.
The result leaves the ODI series level at 2-1 in favour of Sri Lanka, with three more ODIs to come or a follow-up T20I series on the schedule. The two sides will now turn their attention to a three-game T20I rubber.
