Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has been banned from the Pakistan Super League for two years after breaking his contract to play in the league and choosing the IPL instead.
The decision has once again raised questions about player commitments, league rules, and scheduling conflicts between major T20 tournaments.
What led to the ban
Muzarabani was picked by Islamabad United as a replacement player for PSL 2026 after going unsold in the main auction.
Later, he pulled out of his PSL deal when Kolkata Knight Riders signed him as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman. Rahman’s exit from PSL also came under controversy, which made the situation even more complex.
On April 14, the PSL committee officially announced that Muzarabani will not be allowed to play in the next two editions of the league.
The Pakistan Cricket Board also released a statement saying the decision was taken after a full disciplinary review. The board made it clear that once a player accepts a contract, they are expected to honor it.
PCB’s strong message to players
The PCB highlighted that professional cricket depends on trust and clear agreements between players and leagues.
According to the board, Muzarabani accepted the PSL contract but later chose another opportunity that directly conflicted with his commitment.
This is why the board decided to take strict action and make him ineligible for two PSL seasons with immediate effect.

Similar cases and growing trend
This is not the first time such a situation has happened. Last year, Corbin Bosch also left PSL to join an IPL team and received a one-year ban.
In Muzarabani’s case, the punishment is longer, which shows that the board is now taking a stricter approach.
There are also other players like Dasun Shanaka and Spencer Johnson who have moved toward IPL commitments this season. If they fail to meet their PSL agreements, they could face similar action.
Muzarabani’s recent performance in IPL
Despite the controversy, Muzarabani has made a good start in the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders.
| Matches | Wickets | Best Bowling |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 4 | 4/41 |
He has taken 4 wickets in just 2 matches, showing strong form with the ball.
The two-year ban means Muzarabani will miss the next two PSL editions, which could impact his opportunities in Pakistan’s league system.
For teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, this situation highlights the risk of signing players who are already committed to other leagues.
At a larger level, this case shows the growing clash between leagues like IPL and PSL. With both tournaments happening at the same time, players are often forced to make difficult choices.
Cricket boards are now becoming stricter to protect their leagues and ensure players follow contracts properly.
More updates are expected in the coming days as the situation develops.
