Meg Lanning has been an influential figure in women’s cricket. She has let her bat and captaincy do the talking throughout her career.
Lanning has racked up tons of runs to go along with her impressive captaincy numbers. She turned Australia into the most dominant team in women’s cricket.
On the domestic front as well, she has had fruitful captaincy stints, most notably in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Lanning made her international captaincy debut in January 2014. She led Australia in ODIs and T20Is in the Women’s Ashes against England at home.
Following that, Lanning went on to captain Australia in all three formats. And she had a successful stint at the top.
Lanning led Australia in 182 international matches across formats and won 146 of them to have a win percentage of 80.21.
What adds weight to this record are the ICC trophies Australia won under her leadership. Lanning scripted one ODI World Cup and four T20I World Cup victories for Australia.

Lanning had an almost invincible run as Australia’s captain in ODIs. She even led Australia to the ODI World Cup triumph in 2022.
In all, Lanning captained the Aussies in 78 ODIs, winning 69 matches to have an impressive win percentage of 88.46. Her overall wins make her the second-most successful captain for Australia in women’s ODIs.

Lanning imitated her impressive ODI runs in T20Is as well. She is simply the best Australian skipper in T20Is.
What makes her record stand out is Australia won four Women’s T20 World Cup titles under Lanning’s leadership. Three of those titles even came in back-to-back editions between 2018 and 2023.
Lanning’s overall record is commendable, having led Australia to 76 victories out of 100 women’s T20Is.

Lanning has had extensive experience as a captain in domestic women’s T20 tournaments.
She had longer runs in the WBBL with Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers. Her first stint came with the Stars, where she delivered two mixed seasons in 2015/16 and 2016/17.
Lanning missed the 2017/18 season and left the Stars to join the Scorchers in the 2018/19 edition. She couldn’t deliver a lot in the 2018/19 season, but the Scorchers made it to the semi-final in 2019.
Ahead of the 2020 season, Lanning moved back to the Stars and took over the reins. On her return, she guided them to the final, although they fell short of lifting the title.

The 2021 WBBL wasn’t great, and she missed the tournament in 2022. Lanning returned to lead the Stars once again in 2023. But she stepped away from the role towards the fag end of the season, ending her long WBBL captaincy career.
Before Lanning stepped away from her WBBL role, she had an impressive run with Delhi Capitals (DC) to the final of the inaugural WPL in 2023. The theme continued in 2024 and 2025 as DC failed to lift the trophy in each of the three seasons.
Overall, Lanning’s domestic T20 captaincy record has been good, having led in 118 matches, with 61 wins.
