India Collapse for 76 Against England

India entered the third T20I looking to level the series but endured one of their worst batting collapses in the format.

England posted 201/7 after Philip Salt scored 70 and Sam Curran remained unbeaten on 41.

In reply, India’s batting folded under sustained pressure from England’s pace attack. Jofra Archer removed three batters, while Josh Tongue claimed four wickets as India were dismissed for only 76 in 11.4 overs.

Only four Indian batters reached double figures, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ishan Kishan jointly top-scoring with 13 runs each.

Why the Nottingham Innings Was Historic

The defeat produced several unwanted records for India.

    Second-lowest T20I total

India’s 76 all out is now the second-lowest total in the team’s men’s T20I history, behind only the 74 all out against Australia in Melbourne in 2008.

    Biggest defeat by runs

England’s 125-run victory became India’s largest defeat by runs in men’s T20I cricket.

    India’s previous biggest defeats were:

    Shortest completed innings

India’s innings lasted only 11.4 overs, making it the shortest all-out innings in the team’s men’s T20I history.

Lowest men’s T20I total in England

India’s 76 is also the lowest total recorded by any team in a men’s T20I played in England.

    No batter crossed 20

For the first time in a completed men’s T20I innings, no Indian batter reached 20 runs.

    Five wickets inside the powerplay

India slumped to 54/5 inside the first six overs, marking the first time they had lost five wickets during the T20I powerplay.

    Shreyas Iyer’s Reaction

India captain Shreyas Iyer described the performance as unacceptable after the heavy defeat.

He called the display “atrocious” and said the team needed to accept the loss before returning to the drawing board.

Iyer also felt England’s total of 201 was above par for the surface and admitted India failed to adapt to the conditions with both bat and ball.

    India’s Difficult Run Continues

The Nottingham defeat extended India’s difficult run in T20Is.

The team has now gone five consecutive matches without a victory, including four defeats and one no-result.

It is India’s first five-match winless streak in men’s T20I cricket.

The defeat also means India can no longer win the England series, with the best possible outcome now being a drawn series if they win the remaining matches.

The Trent Bridge collapse will be remembered as one of the toughest batting performances in India’s T20I history. Beyond becoming the team’s second-lowest total, the innings produced multiple unwanted records, including the biggest defeat by runs, the shortest all-out innings, and India’s first completed T20I innings in which no batter reached 20.

For England, the victory underlined the effectiveness of their pace attack and gave them a commanding lead in the five-match series.

India still have two matches remaining in the England T20I series. Although the series can no longer be won, victories in the remaining games would allow the visitors to level the contest at 2-2 and finish the tour on a stronger note.
