Mitchell Santner captained New Zealand for the first time in a T20I match in November 2020. He filled in for Tim Southee in the third T20I against the West Indies.
For the next four years, Santner led the Kiwis across ODIs and T20Is in a stand-in capacity. But it was only in December 2024 when he became the full-time skipper.
