Shan Masood has been around Pakistan’s cricket team for a while. He is now central to the Test squad, having taken up the captaincy mantle in 2023.
But this wasn’t the first time he led a team in professional cricket. He had several stints in domestic T20 tournaments before the Test captaincy role came his way.
While Masood has had decent success in T20 cricket, he hasn’t quite clicked in Test cricket.
Here, you can look at Shan Masood’s captaincy record across formats in cricket.

Masood assumed the Test captaincy in late 2023. He replaced Babar Azam in the role, who had earlier resigned as skipper.
Masood didn’t have a great start, losing his debut Test as captain by 360 runs against Australia. He also couldn’t avoid a series whitewash on the 2023/24 Australia tour.
Ever since he stepped into the role, things haven’t been smooth, with series losses following one after another.

Masood has extensive experience in leading teams in domestic T20 tournaments. His first stint came in Pakistan’s National T20 Cup with Islamabad in 2017, though in a stand-in capacity. The next year, Masood led Pakistan A against England Lions in two unofficial T20 games in Abu Dhabi.

His first full-time captaincy stint was with Southern Punjab in the National T20 Cup in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He guided Southern Punjab to the semi-final and final in back-to-back editions.
That resulted in Masood captaining Multan Sultans to the eliminator in the 2020 Pakistan Super League (PSL). In 2021, he stood in for Sindh in a couple of matches in the National T20 Cup.
The next year, Masood led an overseas team for the first time. And in his first attempt, he guided Derbyshire to the 2022 T20 Blast quarter-finals. While Derbyshire couldn’t secure a semi-final berth, it showed Masood’s versatility as captain.
