Gaddafi Stadium Lahore pitch report and records

Gaddafi Stadium is a prominent cricketing venue in Pakistan’s history. It is one of the oldest and largest cricket stadiums in the country.

The Lahore-based stadium first hosted an international match back in 1959, right after its inauguration. Since then, the venue has staged many high-profile fixtures, including World Cup and Champions Trophy matches.

Pakistan often play their Test, ODI, and T20I matches in Lahore. The venue also hosts Pakistan Super League (PSL) fixtures every year.

This article will provide you with the pitch report of the Gaddafi Stadium, along with Test, ODI, and T20I records.

    Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore: Pitch Report

Gaddafi Stadium often produces batting-friendly pitches. The wickets have consistent bounce and carry, which enables excellent stroke play for batters. The faster outfield further helps batters score quick runs.

Fast bowlers, meanwhile, get early assistance with the new balls. They can move the ball around and extract decent bounce. But as the match progresses, they may not find enough support from the deck.

As for spinners, they come into the picture in the middle overs. The worn-out pitch helps them generate turn with the old ball.

The pitch, though, might slow down as the match progresses. This might pose a challenge for batters to score runs freely.

Gaddafi Stadium has hosted 41 Test matches thus far, with less than half producing a result. Fifteen of those matches have been won by teams batting second, while only four times has the result gone in favour of the team batting first.

Teams often look to post big scores in the first and second innings to produce a result. But the pitches with little support for bowlers more often than not see matches end in draws.

The picture is slightly different in ODIs played at the Gaddafi Stadium. Teams batting first have won 37 matches as opposed to 33 while chasing targets.

The pitch tends to slow down in the second half, which makes chasing a bit difficult in Lahore. The toss also plays a major role here, as 45 times teams winning the toss have won the matches.

While the average first innings score is around 255, the recent trend has shown teams breach the 300-run mark with ease.
