Shreyas Iyer, one of India’s most talented middle-order batters, is set to make a strong comeback after missing out on selection for the Asia Cup 2025. Despite performing well in the IPL, Iyer was not picked in the T20 squad for the Asia Cup, which led to a lot of discussion among fans and experts.
However, good news is around the corner for Iyer. As per reports, he is likely to captain the India A team in the upcoming series against Australia A. The series will include two four-day unofficial Tests and three one-day matches. The red-ball matches will be held in Lucknow (starting September 16 and 23), and the ODIs will be played in Kanpur (on September 30, October 3, and October 5).
Iyer is currently playing for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy semifinals, but he was dismissed for just 25 runs in the first innings. Even though it was a short stay at the crease, this is not expected to affect his selection for the India A side.
According to sources, Iyer is expected to get a “prominent role” in the squad, most likely as captain. This could be a crucial opportunity for him to prove himself ahead of future red-ball and white-ball series for India.
