What Is Slow Over Rate in IPL?
Over rate refers to the number of overs a bowling team completes within a specific period of time. Cricket governing bodies set required over-rate standards to ensure matches run on schedule.
In IPL matches, teams must complete their 20 overs within about 90 minutes. This includes two strategic timeouts during the innings, with each timeout lasting 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
The expected over rate in IPL is around 14.11 overs per hour. If a team fails to meet this requirement without valid reasons such as weather interruptions, penalties are applied.
