Delhi Capitals defeated Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets in an IPL 2026 match. DC successfully chased a target of 142 runs with 17 balls remaining.
The match turned around because of a brilliant innings from Sameer Rizvi, who played a match-winning knock at his home ground and guided Delhi Capitals to victory.
Sameer Rizvi Changes the Game After Early Collapse
Delhi Capitals had a difficult start while chasing 142 runs. The team lost four wickets inside the powerplay and was under heavy pressure.
KL Rahul was dismissed on the first ball he faced. Nitish Rana and Axar Patel also failed to stay long at the crease. With these quick wickets, DC were reduced to 33/4 and the chase looked challenging.
Lucknow’s bowlers were in control early in the innings. Mohammed Shami, Mohsin Khan, and Prince Yadav bowled tight spells and created constant pressure on the DC batters.
Sameer Rizvi then came to the crease and began his innings carefully. At one stage he had scored only 5 runs from 13 balls. However, the momentum changed when he played a ramp shot for six off Anrich Nortje.
After that shot, Rizvi started playing more freely. He timed the ball well and attacked the bowlers when opportunities came. As more spin was introduced into the attack, Rizvi adjusted well and slowly shifted the momentum toward Delhi Capitals.
The major turning point came in the 10th over when Shahbaz Ahmed conceded 16 runs. That over helped DC regain control of the chase.
Rizvi and Stubbs Build Match-Winning Partnership
After the early collapse, Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs built a strong partnership that completely changed the match.
DC head coach Hemang Badani made an important tactical decision by sending Stubbs to bat at number six after Axar Patel was dismissed for a duck. David Miller was ready to come next, but the coach asked him to wait.
The decision worked perfectly for DC.
Rizvi and Stubbs added a crucial 119-run partnership for the fifth wicket and guided the team toward victory. Delhi Capitals eventually finished the chase in 17.1 overs.

DC Bowlers Restricted LSG to 141
Before the chase, Delhi Capitals’ bowlers had already done the hard work by restricting Lucknow Super Giants to a low total.
Lucknow struggled to build momentum during their innings. The decision to use Rishabh Pant as an opener did not produce the desired result.
A small partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram briefly steadied the innings, but regular wickets kept slowing down LSG.
Lungi Ngidi delivered an excellent spell with his pace and smart slower balls. Kuldeep Yadav controlled the middle overs with tight bowling, while T Natarajan finished the innings strongly.
