Royal Challengers Bengaluru are waiting for a major boost ahead of IPL 2026 as Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has arrived in India to join the team camp.
RCB will begin their title defense against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, Hazlewood’s availability for the early matches of the tournament is still uncertain because he is recovering from hamstring and Achilles injuries.
Hazlewood Reaches India but Needs Medical Clearance
Josh Hazlewood is expected to join the RCB squad in India on March 26. Even though he has arrived with the team before the tournament begins, his participation in matches will depend on medical clearance.
Cricket Australia will make the final decision on whether he is fit enough to play. The board is usually careful with Hazlewood’s workload, especially because Australia has an important Test schedule later in the year.
At the moment, there is no official confirmation about when he will be ready to play in IPL 2026.
Hazlewood Likely to Miss Early Matches
Because he is still recovering from injury, Hazlewood may not play in the first few matches of the season.
RCB may prefer to give him more time to regain full fitness rather than rushing him back into action. The team management is expected to monitor his progress before deciding when he can return to the playing XI.
RCB Bowling Plans Without Hazlewood
If Hazlewood is not available at the start of the season, RCB will need other bowlers to step up.
New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy could be used as a replacement option in the early matches. However, he is still adjusting to Indian conditions and pitches.
Another challenge for the team is that fast bowler Yash Dayal is expected to miss part of the tournament because of a legal issue. This situation reduces the number of experienced pace options available for RCB.

Extra Pressure on Spin and Young Players
With Hazlewood possibly missing early games, the bowling responsibility will be shared by other players.
Krunal Pandya is expected to play an important role in the middle overs with spin. Young spinner Suyash Sharma could also get more opportunities and will likely face extra pressure to perform.
RCB may also rely more on their batting strength during the early matches until their bowling attack becomes stronger.

No Opening Ceremony for IPL 2026
The IPL 2026 season will start without an opening ceremony.
The decision was taken as a mark of respect for the eleven fans who lost their lives in a stampede during RCB’s title celebrations last year in Bengaluru.
While there will be no opening ceremony, a grand closing ceremony is planned for the final on May 31.
RCB will closely monitor Hazlewood’s recovery over the next few weeks. If he receives medical clearance, he could join the playing XI later in the season.
Until then, the team will depend on its other bowlers and strong batting lineup to stay competitive in the early part of the tournament.
