South African fast-bowling all-rounder Beyers Swanepoel has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Cricket South Africa, allowing him to play county cricket in England.
The decision came just days after he lost his domestic contract with the Lions following a controversial incident during the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge final.
Swanepoel will now join Worcestershire County Cricket Club and begin training with the squad as he prepares for the upcoming county fixtures.
Swanepoel Cleared to Join Worcestershire
Worcestershire confirmed that they have received the NOC for the 27-year-old all-rounder from Cricket South Africa.
With the paperwork completed, Swanepoel is now eligible to train with the Worcestershire team and work on his match fitness before their next match.
The club expects him to prepare for the upcoming fixture against Kent, scheduled to start on April 24 at New Road.
Controversy During CSA One-Day Challenge Final
The situation began during the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge final between the Lions and Titans.
Swanepoel played a role earlier in the match. He scored six runs with the bat and delivered his full bowling quota of 10 overs, finishing with figures of 3 wickets for 44 runs.
However, during the Titans’ chase, Swanepoel left the field with about seven overs remaining. The reason for his departure was not clearly explained at the time, and no substitute fielder was allowed to replace him.
The match remained close until the final moments, but the Lions eventually lost the game by three wickets on the second-last delivery.
Lions Express Disappointment
The Lions management reacted strongly after the incident. Chief executive Jono Leaf-Wright said he was extremely disappointed with the situation.
Soon after the final, Swanepoel and the Lions decided to part ways by mutual agreement, ending his contract with the team.
This raised doubts about whether he would be allowed to play county cricket, as players usually require an NOC from their national board to join overseas teams.

Worcestershire Opportunity Opens Up
Despite the controversy, Cricket South Africa granted Swanepoel the required NOC.
This cleared the way for him to join Worcestershire for the county season. The club confirmed that he will start training with the squad soon as he prepares for the match against Kent at New Road.
Swanepoel’s Previous County Experience
This will not be Swanepoel’s first experience in county cricket. He previously played for Kent during the 2024 season.
In that short stint, he contributed with both bat and ball.
