Fastest Run Chases in T20I Cricket

T20 cricket is all about fast-paced action. Batters, bowlers, umpires – everyone is in a hurry to finish off games quickly.

And when the target is small, the batters don’t like to toil around for too long. They look to chase down targets as quickly as possible. And there have been instances when teams completed run chases in a flash.

In this article, we’ll list the top 10 fastest run chases in T20I cricket.

    10. Kenya beat Mali | 2022

Kenya had 31 runs to chase after Peter Langat (6/17) ran through Mali’s batting lineup. And all they needed was 2.3 overs.

Pushkar Sharma (14*) and Collins Obuya (18*) didn’t waste much time. Sharma hit three fours, while Obuya finished the chase with two sixes and a four.

    9. Ghana beat Mali | 2024

Mali were at the receiving end once again in 2024. This time, they even slumped to a lower score of 24 against Ghana.

Ghana’s response? They wrapped up the chase in 2.2 overs! Samson Awiah contributed an unbeaten 18 runs, and Richmond Baaleri added nine runs while finishing the chase with a four.

    8. Malaysia beat Mongolia | 2024

An inexperienced Mongolian side was clueless against Malaysia in 2024. Virandeep Singh’s 4 for 5 saw Mongolia crash to 31 all out.

Malaysia’s captain, Syed Aziz, was in a lot of a hurry as Malaysia closed out the game in 2.1 overs. Aziz hammered an unbeaten 31 off 11, including 4 fours and 2 sixes. Zubaidi Zulkifle watched his captain go boom, scoring three runs.

    7. Botswana beat Ivory Coast | 2024

A couple of months later, Botswana levelled Malaysia’s record. They first bowled out the Ivory Coast for 31 runs in 11 overs.

And then rushed off to achieve the target in 2.1 overs. Botswana’s both openers smashed three boundaries each to make the quick chase possible.

    6. St Helena beat Ivory Coast | 2024

Two days later, St Helena massacred the Ivory Coast in Abuja. Ivory Coast elected to bat first. But the decision didn’t go down well, as St Helena bundled them out for 26 runs.

Then St Helena had an easy chase. Ivory Coast’s bowlers gifted them 10 wides, while their openers scored the other 17 runs to conclude the chase in two overs.

    5. Hong Kong beat Mongolia | 2024

A few days before Malaysia bashed them, Mongolia had another bad day at the office. This one came against Hong Kong.

After being asked to bat first, Mongolia folded for a mere 17. Their batters didn’t put up a fight whatsoever.

In response, Hong Kong overhauled the 18-run target in 1.4 overs with nine wickets to spare.

    4. Japan beat Mongolia | 2024

Mongolia’s inexperience was yet again exposed on their tour to Japan. In the fourth T20I, they mustered 26 runs in 15.2 overs.

The hosts didn’t take too long to chase 27 runs. They overcame the target in 1.2 overs, with Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake scoring an unbeaten 18.

    3. Tanzania beat Mali | 2024

Tanzania didn’t even need an over to complete the chase against Mali. They first wrapped up Mali’s batting lineup for 18 runs.

And then three fours from Muhammad Zafar Khan, a couple of runs from Abhik Patwa, and five extras saw them through in just five balls.

    2. Singapore beat Mongolia | 2024

In between their embarrassing losses to Hong Kong and Malaysia, Mongolia had a forgettable outing against Singapore.

All Mongolia could muster was 10 runs. Five of their batters were out for ducks. And the highest score was two, achieved by two batters!

While Singapore lost their captain Manpreet Singh on the very first ball, the game was over within the next four balls. Raoul Sharma scored an unbeaten seven, while William Simpson added six runs.

    1. Spain beat Isle of Man | 2023

Would you believe it if a team thrashes down a target in just two balls? No, right?

But something similar happened in Spain’s Cartagena in 2023. Spain recorded the fastest-ever run chase in T20I cricket.

The hosts needed a mere two deliveries to chase 11 runs against the Isle of Man. The first delivery turned out to be a no-ball before Awais Ahmed closed the game with two consecutive sixes.

This came after Spain bundled out the Isle of Man for 10 runs, which was the lowest team total in T20Is back then.
