    That is when you need big infrastructure. Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India, is the biggest cricket venue ever built, with a capacity of over 130,000 at once. But this is not the biggest venue in terms of boundary size. So, which stadium offers the largest boundaries in the game? Here we will focus on the top ten stadiums that offer the biggest boundary size ever. 

    What is the boundary size? 

    The cricket boundary is measured from the distance from the center of the wicket to the boundary. In men’s cricket, the minimum boundary length should be 65 yards (59.43 meters approx.) and the maximum should be 90 yards (82.29 meters). Though the maximum size depends on the stadium, here we will talk about the top ten.

    10. Narendra Modi Stadium (India)

    Narendra Modi Stadium, formerly known as Motera Stadium, is situated in Ahmedabad, India. This is the biggest cricket venue in the world with a seating capacity of 132000. The stadium was reconstructed in 2021 with an estimated cost of 800 crore (US$95 million) and has been one of the top stadiums in India. This is run under the supervision of the Gujarat Cricket Association and offers a boundary size can vary by pitch placement; “75m on average. 

    9. Eden Gardens (India)

    Before Narendra Modi Stadium, it was Eden Gardens, which used to be the biggest cricket stadium in terms of seating capacity. During the India vs Sri Lanka semi-final game in the 1996 Cricket World Cup, it hosts a crowd of 110,564, which is a record in itself. After the renovation in 2010-11, it offers a boundary size of 76–78 meters (straight boundaries) and 66–68 meters (square boundaries). The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) operates and runs all the operations for this stadium. 

    8. Kensington Oval (West Indies)

    Kensington Oval in Barbados is one of the oldest cricket venues in Caribbean Islands, which has been operational since 1871. It was rebuilt during the 2007 ODI World Cup, which cost around USD 45 million. This stadium has a seating capacity of 30500 and is operational under the supervision of Barbados Cricket and offers a boundary size of 76.6 meters (straight) and 69.03 meters (square).

    7. Imperial Wanderers Stadium (South Africa)

    Imperial Wanderers in Johannesburg, also known as Bullring because of the gigantic structure, is for cricket lovers. Its atmosphere and vibe always hit different. Located in the heart of Johannesburg, South Africa, the Wanderers has been operational since 1956. After its renovation, it can fit in 34000 spectators at once. In cricket, it offers a boundary size of 86.75 meters (straight) and 64.1 meters (square). Not just cricket, this venue has also hosted international rugby matches. 

    6. Lord’s Cricket Ground (United Kingdom)

    Lord’s Cricket Ground is a historical cricket site. This venue was built in 1787 and is known as the “home of cricket.” It hosted countless iconic matches in history. This venue is run under the Marylebone Cricket Club and offers a seating capacity of 31,100 at once. It is used frequently to host international and domestic matches. Lord’s Cricket Ground has a boundary size of 88.8 meters (straight) and 65.2 meters (square) and is one of the largest venues in England in terms of boundary size.

    5. Basin Reserve (New Zealand)

Basin Reserve is situated in Wellington, which is one of the most beautiful cricket venues in the world because of the mountains it is surrounded by. It was built in 1868 and has been actively operational for organizing sports events. Though it offers a seating capacity of only around 11,600 but when it comes to boundary size, it is quite big. It has a straight boundary of 81.7 meters, and the square boundaries are 72.48 meters. 

    4. Hagley Oval (New Zealand)

    Another cricket venue of New Zealand makes the list, which is Hagley Oval, based in Christchurch. Established in 1851, it hosted its first cricket match (domestic) in 1867. After its renovation, it offers an increased capacity of 20000 with playing dimensions of 149 m x 149 m. Though it is not as big as other venues in terms of capacity, the boundaries are fairly big enough to feature on this list. Hagley Oval offers a boundary size of 83.5 meters (straight) and 77.45 meters (square). 

    3. Singhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground (Sri Lanka)

    Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground, also known as SSC Cricket Ground, is situated in Colombo. The Sinhalese Sports Club owns this stadium, which was built 73 years ago in 1952. This venue offers a traditional subcontinent pitch with some spice for the spinners. It has a seating capacity of around 10000 and has hosted over 100 international matches so far. In terms of boundary size, the straight boundaries are 86.09 meters, while the square boundaries are 77 meters.

    Sydney Cricket Ground is a multi-purpose sports venue. This is used to host cricket primarily but has also hosted Australian rules football and rugby matches as well. Built in 1851, this venue offers a capacity of 48000 at once, which can be increased with temporary arrangements. The Government of New South Wales owns and runs this venue. One of the longest straight boundaries in world cricket, recorded up to 93.7m, and the square boundaries are 72.8 meters at SCG, earning it the second spot on this elite list.

    Melbourne Cricket Ground hosted the first ever test match at the international level in March 1877 between Australia and England. Since then, this venue has been marked as one of the most iconic cricket venues ever. With a history of almost 150 years, MCG has the second-most seating capacity of 100,024. The playing dimension here is 172.9 meters x 147.8 meters, and it has been renovated multiple times in history. This venue has hosted matches in cricket, football, and rugby as well. At MCG the straight boundaries are 83.43 meters and the square boundaries are off 86.25 meters, making it the largest cricket venue by boundary size.
