Australia’s premier first-class tournament, the Sheffield Shield, will kickstart on October 4, 2025. This will be the 124th edition of the red-ball tournament.
Six teams will be in the hunt to lift the shield across the 2025/26 summer. Each team will face the other five sides twice in a double round-robin format.
The matches will take place in 10 rounds, with the first six scheduled before the much-anticipated Big Bash League. The last stretch of the Sheffield Shield 2025/26 will resume in February 2026.
After the conclusion of the 10th round of games, the top two teams will advance into the Sheffield Shield final, scheduled between March 26 and 30.
In all, 31 matches will take place in the Sheffield Shield 2025/26 season, including the final.
