Shai Hope is perhaps the most consistent batter the West Indies has produced since his debut in 2015, especially in white-ball cricket.
Now he is out there to reclaim the lost glory of the West Indies while leading them across ODIs and T20Is. Hope became their ODI captain in 2023, while he took over the T20I side in 2025.
Here, you can look at Shai Hope’s captaincy record in international cricket.
Shai Hope Captaincy Record in All Formats
| Format | Matches | Won | Lost | Tied | Draw | No Result | Win% |

| Total | 53 | 21 | 31 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 39.62 |
The West Indies appointed Shai Hope as their full-time ODI captain in early 2023. His stint started with a drawn ODI series against South Africa.
But that was followed by the West Indies’ shocking exit from the 2023 World Cup qualifier. Despite that, the board has backed him as their skipper.
Plus, Hope’s consistency with the bat over the past few years has resulted in him leading the T20I side since June 2025. Now, he would like to maintain consistency in his quest to make the West Indies a champion side again.

Hope has had a mixed outing as the West Indies’ ODI skipper. His reign started on a bad note, failing to take the Caribbean side into the 2023 World Cup. They surprisingly lost to Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, and Scotland in the World Cup qualifiers.
Since then, the West Indies have conceded series defeats against India, Australia, Sri Lanka, England, and Bangladesh.
His captaincy record, though, is much better among the captains who’ve led the West Indies in ODIs from 2015 onwards.

Hope’s T20I captaincy stint has started on a poor note. The Caribbean side has already lost T20I series against England, Australia, and Pakistan.
Hope has a big task on his hands to revive the West Indies in what is perhaps their best format in cricket.

His first captaincy stint came in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), having led Khulna Tigers in the absence of regular skipper Yasir Ali.
The next year, Hope filled in for Imran Tahir, leading Guyana Amazon Warriors in a couple of matches in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
