Roston Chase has saved the West Indies from embarrassment on many occasions with his all-round performance, especially in Test cricket.
And now it’s in the same format, he carries an additional responsibility. Chase is now the Caribbean sides’ Test skipper, replacing Kraigg Brathwaite in the job.
He doesn’t have a vast captaincy experience, which may pose challenges as he leads a dilapidated West Indies unit in the toughest format.

Chase’s captaincy debut came in an unexpected way. The West Indies rested their regular skipper, Shai Hope, for the third ODI against the UAE, with Chase filling in for him. The all-rounder was off the mark with an easy win.
A year later, Chase led the West Indies in T20Is for the first time. The result? Another win on captaincy debut.
In 2025, the full-time Test captaincy mantle fell on his shoulder. But unlike the white-ball starts, Chase completely struggled in his debut Test series as skipper.
Nevertheless, he’s still new to the job. He will figure out the winning combination soon in the longest format.
