Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium Pitch Report

India is the superpower in the game of cricket. This sport is regarded as a religion in this country. That is why one can get the best infrastructure and facilities in this country. India is the only country, which has over 50 active cricket stadiums in the world. Some of them have been built in the last decade or so.

Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, is one of the newest cricket venues in India. This stadium was built in 2021 in the Mohali region of Punjab, with a budget of INR 230 crore (US$29 million), spreading over 41.95 acres. It is located at DLF Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, Mohali District, Punjab, India.

The Punjab Cricket Association owns and runs the operation at this venue. This stadium offers a capacity of 38,000 spectators at once, making it one of the biggest in the world. In 2025, it hosted its first international game, and there are many more international matches scheduled to be played at this venue. So, let’s talk about this stadium and its past briefly.

Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium Pitch Report – Batting or Bowling Pitch?

Unlike other cricket stadiums in India, Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, uses a mixture of black and red soil, which gives firmness to the wicket. The wicket here is good, which plays even for batters and bowlers. Early on, the wicket offers a good bounce, making it good to bat on.

As the game goes forward, the wicket will be slightly uneven, making it more suitable for the spin bowlers. It hasn’t hosted many cricket games to tell the exact characteristics of the game. But in whatever number of matches played here, this wicket is a balanced one.

Batters will have runs after getting set. They can score when the ball is new. But bowlers will also have their part. Especially spinners will get more out of the wicket. In T20Is, the average score here should be around 165-170, while the winning score can be 180-185.

Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium Pitch Report – Fast Bowlers or Spinners Pitch?

Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, has a surface made of soil, which helps the wicket to stay firm with time. This is an excellent T20 wicket, and fast bowlers will get swing for the first 4-5 overs when the ball is new.

For spinners, there is enough in the wicket as it gets old. The wicket will provide grip and some turn. But the ball will grip more and will come on the bat slowly. That will make it difficult for the batters to time the big shots. For fast bowlers, once the shine on the ball is gone, they can rely on varying their pace.

The cutters and slower ones will be more effective here. However, dew will make it slightly hard to grip. Bowling in the death overs will be difficult, which is why spinners will like bowling here more than the fast bowlers.
