Since then, the venue has hosted a lot of domestic matches. Punjab Kings (PBKS) shifted their base from the IS Bindra Stadium to here in 2024.

Since then, the venue has been a regular fixture in the IPL. But New Chandigarh hadn’t hosted a lot of top-flight cricket apart from the IPL. That changed in September 2025, when the ground hosted its first-ever international fixture.

On that note, here’s the pitch report, records, and latest updates for the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.

The New Chandigarh venue offers a balanced pitch. Batters and bowlers find enough support from this surface, which has good bounce and carry.

Batters, in particular, can find value for their strokes as the ball comes nicely on the bat. Fast bowlers, too, find initial help, though they need to be precise with their lengths. As the match progresses, spinners find grip on the surface.

Since the pitch helps in aggressive play, teams often opt to bat first and get a competitive total on the scoreboard. The surface might slow a bit in the second half, making chases slightly tough.

The first-ever international match at this venue (India Women vs Australia Women, 1st ODI, Sept 14, 2025) confirmed the batting-friendly nature of the surface. Both sides scored freely, and Australia Women chased down a big total with ease, showing that stroke play dominates here.
