Sultana’s ODI captaincy has been a mixed bag thus far. But the numbers don’t tell the full story.
Bangladesh have actually improved a lot under Sultana’s leadership in ODIs. They have pulled off some incredible wins against India, Pakistan, South Africa, and the West Indies.
Bangladesh even beat Pakistan to register their first-ever win in the Women’s World Cup in 2022. The next year, Sultana guided Bangladesh to level the ODI series against India at home. 2023 was more fruitful as Sultana-led Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 2-1 in a home series.
In early 2025, she led Bangladesh to three wins in the World Cup qualifier to take the team to their second Women’s World Cup.
All in all, Sultana has captained Bangladesh in 37 ODIs, with 14 wins under her belt.

Sultana’s T20I captaincy has seen underwhelming returns. While her run started on a strong note, taking Bangladesh into the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup, things have been topsy-turvy all along.
Barring that dominant run in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, Bangladesh have struggled to maintain their form. The only significant wins have come against India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.
Even in that, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan in a T20I series for the first time in 2023. That has been the watershed moment under Sultana’s captaincy.
Overall, Sultana has led Bangladesh in 57 T20I matches, with 19 wins to her name.
