    1. Century on Test Debut

Hundreds of players have made their Test debuts to date. But not everyone could make it big on debut like Sharma did in 2013.

After Sachin Tendulkar handed him the maiden Test cap, Sharma went on to score 177 in his first Test innings. He was the 14th Indian batter to bring up the brought up a century on his Test debut..

Sharma’s 177 is also the second-highest score for India on Test debut. His knock, laced with 23 fours and a six, helped India recover from a tricky position against the West Indies.

    2. Most Double Centuries in ODI Cricket

Sharma’s ODI numbers are impressive. And what’s even more impressive are those three double centuries.

The right-hander remains the only batter to smash three double centuries in ODI cricket. The first of which, a 209-run knock, came against Australia in 2013.

Then Sharma haunted Sri Lanka twice. The first time was in 2014, with a 264-run knock, followed by an unbeaten 208 in 2017. The last one came as India’s skipper.

    3. Highest Individual Scores in ODI Cricket

Sharma’s 264 was an extraordinary knock. It wasn’t a mere double hundred. Rather, it’s the highest individual score in ODIs.

After India chose to bat first, they had a slow start. By the 13th over, India were already two down.

Then Sharma took a cautious approach to settle on the crease. And once he was set, then there was absolute carnage.

The Sri Lankan bowlers had nowhere to hide from Sharma’s onslaught. Sharma brought up his century in 100 balls before doubling the score in the next 51 deliveries.

Eventually, he fell on the last ball of the innings to end up with 264 runs. He smashed 33 fours and 9 sixes on his way to the mighty score.

    4. Most Centuries in a Single ODI World Cup Edition

Sharma hit his peak in ODIs in 2019. And the best came on display in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

While many batters find it difficult to score a century in their entire World Cup journey, Sharma smashed five, and that too in a single edition! And guess what? He is the only batter to score 5 World Cup centuries in an edition.

The first of Sharma’s centuries, 122 not out, came against South Africa. Then a 140-run knock silenced Pakistan before a fighting 102 against England.

Bangladesh were the next to face Sharma’s heat with a 104-run knock. And the last one (103) came against Sri Lanka.

    5. First Men’s Player to Play 150 T20I Matches

Sharma’s brilliance wasn’t limited to ODI cricket. He brought the magic to the T20I setup as well.

And thanks to that, he went on to play 150 T20I matches, the first men’s player to do so. His T20I debut came back in the 2007 T20 World Cup. Then followed a 16-year journey to receive his 150th T20I cap for India.

    6. Most Runs for India in T20I Cricket

Sharma’s longevity meant he top-scored for India in the shortest format. He was always in a cat-and-mouse race with Virat Kohli for the top spot.

But in the end, the Mumbai batter edged past his fellow teammate. He aggregated 4231 runs in 151 innings at a good strike rate of 140.89.

    7. Most Centuries in T20I Cricket

Sharma’s hunger to score big was pretty much visible in T20Is. He perhaps took a leaf out of his ODI batting. And no wonder he racked up five hundreds in T20Is, the joint most by a batter.

The first of his triple-digit scores came in 2015 against South Africa. He scored 106 of India’s 199 runs, though his efforts weren’t enough.

But that didn’t stop him from going after the big scores. He added four more hundreds, one each against Sri Lanka, England, the West Indies, and Afghanistan. Sharma’s outing against Afghanistan gave him his highest score, an unbeaten 121, in the format.

    8. Most Successful Indian Captain in T20I Cricket

Sharma’s leadership was tailor-made for the shortest format. And he showed glimpses of it in the IPL.

Under his captaincy, Mumbai Indians enjoyed great success. The Indian team also reached new heights, with the finest moment of Sharma’s captaincy being the India did win the 2024 T20 WC.

In between, he guided India to 50 wins in the T20I format to bow out as the most successful skipper in the format.

    9. First Batter to Hit 200 Sixes in T20I Cricket

And his impressive hitting doesn’t need a special introduction. Everyone knows him as the ‘Hitman.’

Sharma proved the tag right on various occasions with his six-hitting abilities. He clubbed 205 sixes in the T20I format, the most by any batter as of 2024.

While someone might overtake him, the fact that he was the first to hit 200 maximums will always be special.

    10. Most Sixes Across All Formats of International Cricket

Sharma’s six-hitting wasn’t restricted to T20I cricket. It spanned across formats.

He surpassed many legends renowned for their power hitting. And now he remains the only batter with more than 600 sixes in all formats combined.

Collectively, the right-hander has smashed 637 maximums in 532 innings, with 344 of them coming in ODIs and 88 in Tests.

Rohit Sharma’s journey is a testament to perseverance, talent, and leadership. From record-breaking centuries to leading India and Mumbai Indians with distinction, he has left a lasting mark on the game.
