Having a tall height can be advantageous in sports. And in cricket, it can be a blessing in disguise, especially if you are a fast bowler.

The towering pacers can be maniacs with their extra speed and bounce. As for batters, they will have less trouble playing the searing high deliveries.

India has had some of the tallest cricketers, who have excelled in their craft at the global level. And this article will list the top 10 tallest Indian cricketers.

    List of Tallest Indian Cricketers

    10. Anil Kumble | 6ft 1in

    Anil Kumble

Perhaps India’s biggest match winner, Anil Kumble, stands tall at six feet one inch. He was among a few tall leg spinners to make it big in cricket.

Kumble used his height well to deceive batters. While he didn’t turn the ball a lot, he got the better of the batters with speed.

The pace also helped him get a decent bounce, which further made things difficult for batters. As a result, he bagged a haul of 619 wickets in Tests and 337 scalps in ODIs.

    9. Prasidh Krishna | 6ft 2in

    Prasidh Krishna

Prasidh Krishna is perhaps the tallest pacer in the country right now. The Karnataka-born fast bowler stands at six feet two inches.

While his height is a great factor as a fast bowler, he hasn’t quite yet used it to its full potential. Prasidh Krishna can bang the surface hard and extract prodigious bounce to trouble batters.

But constant injuries have held him back from using his height and pace in full flow. If he manages to remain injury-free, Krishna can be a menace.

    8. Ravichandran Ashwin | 6ft 2in

    Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin is the tallest spin bowler to represent India. While Ashwin couldn’t overtake Kumble’s wicket tally, he leapfrogged the leggie in terms of height by an inch.

The off-spinner, who retired from international cricket in late 2024, bowled with a high-arm action. He used his six-foot-two-inch frame well to produce enough bounce and turn. Plus, his variations further caught the batters off guard.

Ashwin’s street-smart tactics saw him dismiss 765 batters for India. Now he remains active in the IPL and TNPL.

    7. Javagal Srinath | 6ft 3in

    Javagal Srinath

Javagal Srinath was the flagbearer of India’s pace attack in the 1990s and early 2000s. The six-foot-three-inch pacer bowled with a solid pace while using the variations cleverly.

His height helped him hit the deck hard and get that extra bounce. Srinath also tested batters with his cutters and swing deliveries.

He carried India’s attack for more than a decade. He was in fine touch even in his last few days, taking India to the final of the 2003 World Cup.

After the tournament, Srinath bowed out with 236 scalps in the longer format and 315 wickets in ODIs.

    6. Arshdeep Singh | 6ft 3in

    Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh shares the same height as Srinath. While Arshdeep has a lot to catch up with Srinath’s numbers, he has emerged as one of the best left-arm pacers in India right now. And no wonder he is regular in India’s white-ball setup.

Like every tall fast bowler, Arshdeep has all the traits to generate extra pace and bounce. The Punjab bowler can bowl consistently in the 140s. And he can work over batters with his pinpoint yorkers and inswingers.

    5. Venkatesh Prasad | 6ft 3in

    Venkatesh Prasad

Venkatesh Prasad bowled in tandem with Srinath for India. Coincidentally, he had the same height as his bowling partner.

Prasad was a great exponent of swing, moving the new ball either way. And then he had the pace to back it.

While Prasad’s career wasn’t long enough, he made a mark in ODIs with 196 dismissals and added 96 wickets in Tests.

    4. Venkatesh Iyer | 6ft 4in

    Venkatesh Iyer

Enough of tall bowlers. Here’s Venkatesh Iyer, one of the tallest Indian all-rounders, with a height of six feet four inches.

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player has impressed at the domestic level with his all-round performances. But he hasn’t been able to convert it into something credible for India.

Iyer’s tall height, along with the medium pace bowling, was a factor behind his India debut. But he couldn’t make the most of it. Now, he hasn’t been bowling much, which has diminished his chances of making a comeback.

    3. Shivam Dube | 6ft 4in

    Shivam Dube

Shivam Dube is made from the same mould as Venkatesh Iyer. He can smack bowlers all over the ground and bowl medium pace.

This helped him earn an India call-up in 2019. But he fell out of favour in no time.

Then the six-foot-four-inch Dube worked on his batting and dazzled in the IPL. His successful outings in the 2023 and 2024 seasons saw him don the India jersey again.

While Dube has a long way to go, he can be an effective pace-bowling all-rounder, thanks to his height.

    2. Ishant Sharma | 6ft 5in

    Ishant Sharma

A few Indian fast bowlers have risen through the ranks like Ishant Sharma. That he stood at six feet five inches further fuelled his inclusion in the Indian squad.

And Sharma repaid the faith immediately. The Delhi pacer made everyone take notice of his pace and bounce on the 2008 Australia tour. He troubled the Aussies throughout the series, especially Ricky Ponting, who was always his target.

The lanky fast bowler made the most of his height. He hit the pitch with a lot of speed while the ball bounced off at awkward heights.

The menacing pacer was pretty effective with the red ball, taking 311 wickets in 105 Tests. Sharma further added 123 scalps in white-ball cricket.

    1. Abey Kuruvilla | 6ft 6in

    Abey Kuruvilla

Not a prominent name, but Abey Kuruvilla is the tallest Indian cricketer. He has a tall frame of six feet and six inches.

Despite the enormous height, Kuruvilla didn’t bowl at a lot of pace. Perhaps this was the reason behind his short career.

While he could move the ball and had a slower one up his sleeve, Kuruvilla couldn’t quite seal his spot in the team. He was out of favour within a year of his debut, ending up with 50 wickets across formats.
