The race to host the IPL 2026 playoffs has started to take shape, with two cities currently leading the discussion. Bengaluru and New Chandigarh are emerging as the main contenders to stage the knockout matches of the tournament.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India will make the final decision after reviewing several factors such as travel arrangements, security planning and broadcast logistics.
Why the Playoff Decision Is Delayed
The IPL schedule for the season was released in two phases. Officials waited for the announcement of polling dates for state elections before confirming the full schedule.
Because of this, the venues for the playoff matches were kept open for later confirmation. The governing body now plans to finalize the playoff hosts after studying all practical considerations.
Traditionally, the IPL final is played at the home venue of the defending champions.
Possible Venue for the IPL 2026 Final
If Bengaluru is selected as the host city, the IPL 2026 final will most likely be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The championship match is scheduled to take place on May 31.
The IPL Governing Council will also decide where the Eliminator and other playoff matches will be played after reviewing the tournament schedule and travel plans.
