In a major update for international cricket, India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh has been officially postponed. The decision was confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) through an official announcement on X (formerly Twitter).
The much-anticipated series, which was earlier scheduled for August 2025, will now be played in September 2026, with revised dates and fixtures to be announced later.
BCCI and BCB Mutually Agree to Reschedule Series
According to the official statement, the decision to defer the tour was taken mutually by both cricket boards after detailed discussions.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and BCCI agreed that postponing the series would be the best option, considering international commitments and scheduling convenience for both teams.
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series, comprising three ODIs and three T20 Internationals, between Bangladesh and India from August 2025 to September 2026,” the BCCI statement said.
The Indian board also clarified that the updated schedule and match dates will be shared in due course.
Why Was the India–Bangladesh Series Postponed?
India’s Bangladesh tour had been under uncertainty for some time. Reports earlier suggested that ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region were creating challenges for the smooth conduct of the series.
With concerns over logistics and overall feasibility, both boards explored various options before arriving at a joint decision to reschedule the tour rather than cancel it altogether.
The move ensures that the high-profile series remains intact while allowing both teams to plan better for a later window.
India Tour of Bangladesh: Original Schedule Plan
Under the original plan, India were set to play a six-match white-ball series against Bangladesh, featuring:
- 3 One Day Internationals (ODIs)
- 3 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is)
Proposed Venues for the Series
The matches were scheduled to be played across two major venues:
- **Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka
- **Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, Chattogram
Venue Allocation (Original Plan)
| Venue | Matches Planned |
|---|---|
| Dhaka | First 2 ODIs, Last 2 T20Is |
| Chattogram | 1 ODI, 1 T20I |
All six matches were scheduled to take place between August 17 and August 31, 2025, immediately after India’s tour of England.
With the series now shifted to September 2026, both boards will work on fitting the tour into an already packed international calendar.
Fans can expect:
- A revised schedule announcement in the coming months
- Confirmation of venues and match dates
- The return of a high-voltage India vs Bangladesh contest in a more suitable window
While the postponement may disappoint fans in the short term, the mutual decision by BCCI and BCB ensures that the series will be played under better conditions and planning clarity. When it finally takes place in 2026, the India–Bangladesh tour promises to deliver the same intensity and excitement that has defined this rivalry over the years.
