Pant’s first major captaincy stint came in the IPL. He replaced injured Shreyas Iyer as Delhi Capitals (DC) captain in IPL 2021.
And in his maiden stint, he guided DC to the knockouts. Although Delhi couldn’t go past Qualifier 2, it showed Pant’s potential as a skipper.
That led to Pant leading DC for two more seasons in 2022 and 2024, though he couldn’t replicate the 2021 run. In between, he missed the complete 2023 season due to his car accident.
After an average run in 2024, DC released Pant, who then moved to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for IPL 2025. LSG announced Pant as their new captain.
While LSG had a good start, they soon lost the steam to finish seventh on the points table. On the individual level, Pant had a below-average outing.
