Sikandar Raza is an important figure in Zimbabwe cricket. He has been their best player since his debut in 2013.

Raza first led Zimbabwe in the second T20I against India in 2015. He filled in for regular skipper Elton Chigumbura, leading Zimbabwe to a 10-run victory to level the series 1-1.
Then he led them in a temporary capacity in a few matches between 2021 and early 2023. It was in November 2023 when Raza became the full-time T20I skipper.
Since then, he has led them in more than 50 matches in limited-overs cricket with considerable success.

Raza has stood in as Zimbabwe’s captain in five ODIs between 2022 and 2023. But he hasn’t had any success, losing four of the five matches.

Raza was the stand-in skipper for four matches before he became the full-time T20I captain in November 2023.
Raza’s stint, though, started on a rough note. Zimbabwe failed to qualify for the 2024 T20 World Cup under his captaincy.
Since then, Raza has had a mixed outing. Zimbabwe have suffered T20I series defeats against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
But Zimbabwe bounced back under Raza’s leadership, qualifying for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Raza has had a few captaincy stints in T20 leagues. His maiden outing was in a stand-in capacity for Dambulla Aura in the Lanka Premier League in 2022.
The next year, Raza stepped up for St Lucia Kings in the absence of Faf du Plessis and led them to the eliminator.
In 2025, he became Dubai Capitals captain in the International League T20 and played a crucial role in lifting the trophy. A few months later, he led Seattle Orcas in the Major Cricket League, replacing Heinrich Klaasen midway through the season.
