Steven Smith is perhaps one of the best batters produced by Australia. He initially started as a leg spinner but worked on his batting to become the best batter of his era.
But that’s not all. Smith had a great rise as Australia’s captain before a ball-tampering scandal almost ruined his career.
Nevertheless, he has returned from that dark period to rule the run charts. And now Smith is also part of Australia’s leadership group, leading them occasionally.
Here you can look at Steven Smith’s captaincy record in international cricket.

Smith’s exceptional performance in the series meant he soon became their full-time Test skipper. The ODI captaincy followed through a few months later, while he had a short run in T20Is.
Everything was going well till March 2018. But his involvement in the controversial ‘Sandpaper Gate’ scandal brought an abrupt halt to his captaincy.
Later, Cricket Australia removed Smith as captain, though he has been back in the leadership group since 2021. He has been a stand-in skipper, leading them once again in Tests and ODIs.
