Ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, the BCCI has decided that the five standby players named earlier will not travel to Dubai with the main squad. The management believes that carrying extra players is not necessary and replacements will only be flown in if required.
List of India’s Standby Players for Asia Cup 2025
Player | Role |
---|---|
Yashasvi Jaiswal | Batter |
Prasidh Krishna | Fast Bowler |
Washington Sundar | All-rounder |
Riyan Parag | All-rounder |
Dhruv Jurel | Wicketkeeper-Batter |
These players will stay back in India and join only if there are injuries in the main squad.

Why This Decision?
- India already has multiple options in the squad for both batting and bowling.
- For example, Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, and Sanju Samson can open the innings, so Jaiswal’s backup is not immediately needed.
- Similarly, Prasidh Krishna would only be called if a pacer like Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, or Harshit Rana faces injury.
- BCCI preferred to keep the group lean with only 15 main players, even though 17 were allowed.

The decision not to send standby players shows that the team management has confidence in the chosen 15-member squad led by Suryakumar Yadav. While the likes of Jaiswal, Prasidh, Sundar, Parag, and Jurel miss out on traveling to Dubai, they remain on standby and could still play a role if injuries strike during the tournament.
With Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, and Dhruv Jurel staying back, India will head to the UAE with a slim but well-balanced squad. The team begins its campaign against UAE on September 10, and all eyes will be on the high-voltage clash India vs Pakistan on September 14 in Dubai.
