Rohit Sharma Impresses in Fitness Test Ahead of ODI Comeback

Veteran cricketer Rohit Sharma has once again shown why he’s one of India’s most dependable players, not just with the bat but also in terms of fitness. At the age of 38, Rohit successfully passed the BCCI’s latest fitness assessments — including the newly introduced Bronco Test and the well-known Yo-Yo Test — held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

These tests are now compulsory for players looking to be part of the Indian national team

The Bronco Test is a tough running drill where a player has to sprint to and from distances of 20 meters, 40 meters, and 60 meters, completing five sets non-stop. The total distance covered is 1.2 km and players must complete it within 6 minutes.

It’s a test of endurance, speed, stamina, and mental toughness — and Rohit passed it with flying colours.

The BCCI introduced the Bronco Test to ensure that Indian cricketers are match-fit, especially with a busy international calendar ahead. It’s tougher than the Yo-Yo Test because it doesn’t allow any rest in between runs.

Rohit’s ability to clear the test at this stage of his career has impressed selectors, coaches, and fitness staff alike. According to reports, his physical condition and performance during the tests were described as “sharp”, “focused”, and “highly disciplined.”

Rohit is now set to feature in India’s ODI series against Australia in October. There’s also a chance he may play for India A in the one-day matches against Australia A in Kanpur later this month.

Though Rohit has already retired from T20Is and Test cricket, he remains an important figure in India’s ODI setup.

Earlier this year, Rohit had a tough outing during the Test series in Australia and later announced his retirement from Tests. However, he ended his T20I career on a high by helping India win the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Now, all eyes are on his performance in the upcoming ODIs. If he continues this form and fitness, he could very well anchor India’s top order once again — just like he has done for over a decade.

Though the current match was a draw, many fans and experts felt that Rohit Sharma deserved the Man of the Match title — not for runs scored, but for showing leadership, discipline, and outstanding fitness. His efforts are being seen as an example for the younger players in the team.

Rohit Sharma has proven that age is just a number when you’re committed to excellence. His Bronco Test success is not only a personal achievement but also a strong message — that every player, no matter how senior, must stay fit and ready to compete.

With India preparing for the Asia Cup, ODI series vs Australia, and the Champions Trophy in 2026, a fit and focused Rohit could still be India’s most important match-winner.
